SPIN Announces New Event for 2020

Inaugural AdventureCon in Anchorage, AK

SPIN’s first AdventureCon will be held at the Alyeska Hotel & Resort, June 1-4, 2020.  AdventureCon will deliver a combination of senior-level planner education, along with several opportunities to explore Anchorage and surrounding communities.

The event will offer a glacier cruise, a whale-watching cruise, dog sledding (with puppy cuddling), ‘flightseeing’ of Denali National Park, a visit to a wildlife conservation center, an iPhone photography workshop, hikes, outdoor yoga, and more. Education will include a senior planner round tables, and hands-on crisis drills.

“We created this new event in direct response to our members’ desire to explore destinations outside the lower 48 states. Unlike a familiarization trip, this event will include three hours of continuing education each day,” said SPIN founder Shawna Suckow, CSP, CMP.

“AdventureCon will be the first SPIN event to welcome members’ friends and family, because our members want time for both professional and personal pursuits. Why not combine them at an industry event?” said SPIN VP of Everything, Catherine Jensen.

AdventureCon is open to all planners with 10+ years of experience, along with their guests who are 18+.  Suppliers who are AdventureCon sponsors also are welcome to attend.  Registration and sponsorship spaces are very limited.  For complete information visit www.spinplanners.com/adventurecon-2020.html.

SPINCon CSR Efforts

Continues Give-Back Efforts at Annual Conference
SPIN:Senior Planners Industry Network partnered with YWCA Monterey County for its CSR efforts this month at their annual conference, SPINCon 2019 held in Monterey, CA. SPINCon has had a tradition of supporting local causes centered around women and children since its inception.

Support for YWCA
One of SPIN’s partners, Wildly Different, coordinated a fun teambuilding activity around the property to kick off the conference. One of the many stops was an activity assembling 180 hygiene kits for YWCA Monterey County’s program to assist victims of human trafficking. “With the help of associations like SPIN, we can continue providing safe refuge to women and families as they rebuild their lives,” said Taryn Kearns, Community Resource Supervisor at YWCA Monterey County.

Book Swap and Donation
Another project helped attendees share their no-longer-wanted business books with others. All were encouraged to scour their bookshelves for books they thought could benefit others and bring them to the conference for a book swap. Almost 100 books were collected and all but 20 were swapped. The remaining books were donated to Friends of Marina Library for their bookstore.

SPIN Announces 2019 40 Over 40 Winners: Industry’s First Recognition Solely for Veteran Planners

SPIN:Senior Planners Industry Network announces the 2019 recipients of the industry’s original recognition for veteran meeting planners – SPIN:40 Over 40. This initiative was created in 2017 to recognize and honor planners who are industry role models, influencers, innovators, and pioneers.

“This year we have a group of 28 honorees,” said Tracey Smith, CMP, CMM, SPIN’s Executive Director. “This is an evolving process and we changed some of our criteria, focusing more on giving back, innovation and accomplishments. While we had many candidates, the ones chosen best represented the qualifications we were looking for.”

SPIN’s Founder, Shawna Suckow, CMP, CSP, added, “This group of recipients represents planners with diverse backgrounds who excel in innovation and truly giving back. They’re helping the next generation learn from their examples.”

“It is an honor to be nominated and to have been selected as part of this group,” noted Stephanie Krzywanski, CMM of JR Global Events. “I’ve been drawn to this industry since college and have had the good fortune to have had many opportunities to create my own pathwithin it and to give back.”

Sally Mainprize, SMMC, CRP of Iron Peacock Events, who received multiple peer nominations, echoed that sentiment and added, “I love what I do and am humbled that my industry colleagues value my contributions. The truth is, without my mighty team, I could accomplish very little.”
