Green/Environmental Initiatives: Green Meetings at Hyatt Regency Monterey:
With Americans throwing away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every year, Hyatt Regency Monterey is
doing its part to reduce impact on the environment by offering new “green” meeting packages. For socially
conscious companies, meeting planners can provide a meetings package that matches environmentally responsible
ethics with ease. “Green” meetings option highlights include:
- No Styrofoam; recyclable or reusable products whenever possible
- Water served from water coolers with rocks glasses
- Reusable to-go coffee cup with company logo (100% US Corn Plastic)
- Binders made of recycled corrugated cardboard, notepads made of recycled paper, and recycled paper pens with company logo.
- Recycle bins inside all meeting rooms
- Condiments served in bulk, with the exception of sugar substitutes
- Small beverage napkins made of recycled paper
- Props used on buffets or breaks will be natural products such as fresh rosemary or lavender, coffee beans,
fresh fruits & vegetables
- “Greening” Outside the Box – In keeping with the “green” format, meeting menus feature local produce
(organic wherever possible) and sustainable seafood from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood watch
list. Snacks may include mix-you-own trail mix, customizable fresh organic fruit smoothies and French
Pressed Shade Grown Coffee. Green “boxed lunches” go outside the box - presented in take-away
recycled cotton lunch bags, takeaway lunch features turkey or vegetarian sandwiches, whole organic fresh
fruit, whole wheat pasta salad served in recycled containers, vegan cookies or brownies, and refillable,
branded water bottles (100 % recycled materials) to fill with freshly-brewed ice tea or water.
Future “Green” Endeavors at Hyatt Regency Monterey
While effectively implementing Hyatt Hotels & Resorts environmental standards, Hyatt Regency Monterey’s goal is
to anticipate and surpass these standards in the future. Planned environmentally responsible efforts will include
recycling services in public areas, possibly to include guest rooms and suites, and increased efforts for water and
energy and water conservation throughout the property. Hyatt Regency Monterey is actively pursuing various
“green” standards, ultimately qualifying the hotel for regional and national green business certifications and
awards to include the County of Monterey’s Green Business Program, California’s Green Lodging Program, Green
Hotels Association certification, and the Green Seal Certification, among others. The formation of a “Green Team”
task force, specifically devoted to continued progress in “greening” efforts at Hyatt Regency Monterey, will focus
solely on continued recycling and environmental efforts within the resort.
