The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, located at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, first opened its doors in May of 1927. Since hosting the First Academy Awards in 1929, The Hollywood Roosevelt has become both a landmark attraction and a popular destination for locals and tourists from around the world. Situated in the heart of Hollywood, along the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame, the location is ideal for any group or meeting.

Guests can choose from a variety of accommodations ranging from poolside cabanas to tower rooms to our 3200 square foot Gable and Lombard Penthouse Suite including a rooftop deck with stunning views of the city and Hollywood Hills. A 2015 multi-million dollar tower rooms renovation, designed by Yabu Pushelberg,  evokes the epitome of Hollywood glamour as the old embraces the new.

The Blossom Ballroom has been restored back to its original magnificence, featuring custom chandeliers, original tile and ceiling architecture, its detail is reminiscent of its 1927 origins. CP Heads to Expo! Expo!

This is your traveling blogger reporting in from L.A. after attending the IAEE 2015 Expo!Expo! held Dec.9-11 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Beginning with the Opening General Session and CEM presentation, the event moved on to the Tradeshow in the Conference Hall and then to the Opening Reception occurring next door at Nokia Plaza near the Staples Center.

ConventionPlanit.com recently signed a collaboration agreement with IAEE, and Deborah Shepard and I were on hand as “first-timers” to the event.

David DuBois, President and CEO, welcomed the audience by greetings in English, Japanese and Spanish, demonstrating that 30 countries were represented by the attendees. The group was then addressed by Ernest Wooden, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, a CP.com member.

The trade show opened in typical L.A. style with the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band escorting attendees to the show floor by playing Fleetwood Mac’s “Tusk.” The exhibition offered a combination of business and education and the planners on the floor represented the best of the exhibitions and events industry.

Deborah and I walked the show floor and were interested to find a number of CP.com members exhibiting. Of course we have photos to share with you!

At the various tradeshows ConventionPlanit participates in throughout the year, it is always a treat to catch up with our member hotels and cvb’s.

In between stints on the tradeshow floor, I was able to check out the educational session focusing on “Exhibition Marketing – Asian Practice.”

Most interesting were mentions of CP.com members Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

It was demonstrated how Asia has become the hub of the global exhibitions and events market and that these world class facilities are the reasons why Singapore and Malaysia are known as superior M.I.C.E. destinations.

The closing party was held at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live. The last chance to meet with colleagues before heading home is always a fun time, and all are excited to meet up again for Expo!Expo! 2015 in Baltimore.

See you there!

IMEX America Wrap Up

I found a few more photos floating around on my devices that I wanted to share with you all. The third and final day of the show, I had a chance to check out some of CP’s partners amazing booths.

Associated Luxury Hotels International had a very large space at the show, and with 160+ member hotels, it was easy to see why the extra space was needed!

Visit Anchorage was busy with appointments when I stopped by, but rest assured, their booth was filled with their famous adorable stuffed moose giveaways.

Maureen attended the IMEX America Closing Press Conference, which this year expanded to include the three representatives pictured with their partner, Ray Bloom. Obviously the 4th edition of IMEX America surpassed all records previously established.

Allow me to share some year over year statistics with you:

  • Exhibiting companies representing 240 countries  (13% increase)
  • 2900 hosted buyers (8% increase)
  • 53,000 one-to-one business appointments (6% increase)

Maureen also had a chance to explore some of the other stands, and wouldn’t you know, she decided to take a nap! The Delta Air Lines stand brought all the comforts of flight to Las Vegas with this plush bedding and seat.

Exhibitors Get Creative at AIBTM

We’re back again with more inside info from the show floor at AIBTM 2012.  There was so much excitement in the air throughout the show and the Baltimore Convention Center had the air conditioning pumping for us – you would have never known it was over 100 degrees right outside!

I had the chance to walk the show floor and check out the exciting booths.  This year, PCMA offered 15-minute bite-sized educational sessions at their stand.  What an innovative way to educate the attendees!

Many of our CP members were also exhibiting, and boy did they go all out.

AIBTM 2012

Longtime site member Associated Luxury Hotels International had a busy stand all day.  Their portfolio of properties, many of which are international, was the perfect fit for AIBTM.

AIBTM 2012

Doesn’t this look like the perfect place to take a load off and learn all about the exciting city of Los Angeles?

Visit Mexico‘s booth resembled an enormous call center.  They brought representatives from many of the large meeting destinations in the country and had no shortage of staff to share information, handouts, and cds.

Atlantic City CVB

The Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority staff was kind enough to pose for a photo for me.  Look at all of those delicious M&Ms!

Malaysia CVB

The Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau‘s booth was located in the international section of the expo hall.  There were quite a few international exhibitors, but the bright and cheerful tropical colors of Malaysia’s booth made them a stand out!

It was also fun catching up with members from Travel Portland, the Bloomington Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Site Solutions Worldwide.  Site Solutions offers housing and registration assistance, in addition to a slew of other meeting and event management services.  Our friend Justina with Site Solutions has a wealth of tips for meeting planners that we’ll be sharing in some upcoming issues of our enewsletter – so stay tuned!

A fun and exciting addition to the show floor was the The Future Events Experience, which offered meeting planners and suppliers a chance to learn about new technology in brief hands-on demonstrations (while relaxing on comfy leather couches!)  There was a wealth of educational sessions on the schedule, but the Future Events Experience was a fun way to interact a bit more personally with the presenters in between visiting booths.

Thank you to AIBTM for such an informative and fun show!  We can’t wait for next year’s show in Chicago – mark your calendars for June 11-13, 2013!
