Historical San Francisco Penthouse Updated

Comments Off

You’re probably familiar with the San Francisco Fairmont for its 55,000 square feet of meeting space or for the views of the San Francisco Bay – but it’s the penthouse that may be the most famous.

The spacious suite spans the entire eighth floor of the hotel, whose guests have included JFK, Prince Charles and Representatives of the Big Four – and just completed a major renovation.

In an Associated Press interview, Tom Klein, regional vice president general manager of the hotel, says

“You’ll just be blown away.”

For $15,000 a night, the three bedroom suite with dining room, living room, library, and terrace comes complete with a butler, housekeeper, chef, masseuse, personal trainer, fully stocked gourmet kitchen, plus the use of a Ferrari California.

Some updates in the renovation include a newly remodeled kitchen and removing the 1,800 pieces of etched glass that make up the ceiling of the billiard room for a cleaning.

New Ideas and Partnerships at ASAE Expo 2009

What are planners looking for from the ASAE Expo?

A survey taken on the floor the first two days found planners looking for new ideas and new partnerships. To quote one association planner,

“In order to be successful, we look at our exhibitors not just as exhibitors, but as business partners.”

Face to face interaction with business partners at the expo is an important way to foster connections.

After ASAE has concluded, planners can solidify these new relationships by using ConventionPlanit.com as a web portal to our varied portfolio of suppliers.

Technology, especially social networking, are important components to the meetings industry, but can be made much more successful through new face to face connections!

Maureen Pickell & Julio Rodriguez are having some great “face to face” time at IMEX in Frankfurt, Germany this week.

This year’s IMEX is the most successful to date with 3,500 exhibitors from 157 countries!

The ConventionPlanit.com Hosted Buyer Group was entertained royally by the Maison de la France at a very creative venue (the top floor of a parking garage!) with champagne, wine and regional cuisine from France.

Meetings Mean Business

Yesterday was the first U.S. Travel Rally Day. It was a nation-wide success!

The Twitter account for Keep America Meeting, an initiative to promote and protect meetings, events and incentive travel in the U.S., (Twitter username: KeepMeeting) helped keep the travel community involved in yesterday’s festivities across the country by encouraging users to post with #rallyday.

(Twitter 101: Hashtags serve as search terms in Twitter – entering #rallyday into Twitter search pulls every post from a user with the term).

Tweeters posted real-time pictures and words from rallies across the country while others showed support by sharing great facts and statistics about the importance of meetings.

Some powerful ‘tweets’:

ACAREYCMP said: “Meetings and incentives are NECESSARY in this economic environment, to motivate employees & maintain market share!”

DaleCollie shared that “One of your best business development resources is your annual convention, don’t miss it this year when needed most.”

LIEvents noted “On an average day, there are 17 million meetings in America! Happy #rallyday”

To check out what else travel supports were saying, visit the Rally Day Twitter Feed.

ConventionPlanit.com members were out in full support for Rally Day. Here are some highlights of our members’ Rally Day activities from across the country (We are proud of you all!):

Visit Fairfax: held a rally today at the Fashion Court in Tysons Corner Center Mall to show support for the meetings industry.

The Hyatt Regency McCormick shared this video on YouTube of Concierge Tony explaining why meetings matter to him

The Orlando/Orange County CVB went all out to show how important tourism is to Central Florida, with a rally yesterday that included appearances by several of Orlando’s most well-known theme park characters, as well as performers from Pirates Dinner Adventure, Gatorland, SeaWorld Orlando, & Walt Disney World Resort.
