Just stayed for several days at the downtown Chicago property of a very large chain and noticed that there were small cuts in amenities that would probably add up to a lot overall: no plastic bag liners for trashcans in the room and no refrigerators for mini-bar drinks and snacks. Ours was an economy-priced room and the cost of running a refrigerator for people like us who never purchase mini-bar items would've been a waste of money. Also noticed energy-saver bulbs in every lamp and no exhaust fan in the bathroom. All the above are great for saving energy as well as money for the hotel.
